 vz24
Got my grandfathers vz24 from 1927, this is a ww2 bring back and I can't find ammo for it. I found some vintage 8mm rounds but it doesn't fit into chamber seems to be too big. I've mic'd the bore at the end and depending where i take the measurement it ranges from 7.97 to 8.12--- does anybody what particular ammo this would take.
thanks

 Re: vz24
Welcome!! is there any markings on the bbl telling you anything about chambering? the most likley round for that rifle is 8mm mauser. check for arsenal stampings and read up on this rifle. have a competent gunsmith go through the rifle before you even think of firing it, especially if nothing has been done to it since ww2. you just got here man, we would hate to read about you blowing your face off with that rifle

 Re: vz24
Well if you can post a picture of the crest marking or get the serial number we could narrow it down. The vast majority from that year were chambered in 7.92X57 though it could be a 8mm.

 Re: vz24
the 8mm Mauser was also called 7.92x57. aresnal markings are gonna serve us best here, that gun probably won't have a serial

 Re: vz24
My guess is that its a 7x57mm and not an 8x57mm, A 7mm mauser. They are not as common as the 8mm, but they are out there. Surplus ammo is hard to find but it is commercialy available.

 Re: vz24
I sent it to the local shop for their smith to look at and he sent it back without firing it--needless to say I didn't pay him and need to find a new gunsmith.

 Re: vz24
There is a serial # and crest and markings all over this thing but no mention of caliber. I'll send some pics when I get home tonight.
