Post Need help establishing the value of a rifle
I have a 30 Remington, model 14-A.

Its condition is about 65%, but I am using my best guess because i'm not good at this stuff. The gun is fully operable, action is clean and smooth, barrel is in good condition. wood has some light marking, but not cracks or major flaws. there is some pitting on the outside of the receiver but no rust. bluing is probably about 30%

i will post pictures when i get a chance. this gun was manufactured probably around 1925-1930.

i'm hoping 911jb will be able to help me out with this one.

Here is a general guide.

NRA Firarm Ratings
FACTORY NEW
All original parts; 100% original finish; in perfect condition in every respect, inside and out.

EXCELLENT
All original parts; over 80% original finish; sharp lettering, numerals, and design on metal and wood; unmarred wood; fine bore.

FINE
All original parts; over 30% original finish; sharp lettering, numerals, and design on metal and wood; minor marks in wood; good bore.

VERY GOOD
All original parts; none to 30% original finish; original metal surfaces smooth with all edges sharp; clear lettering, numerals and design on metal; wood slightly scratched or bruised; bore disregarded for collectors firearms.

GOOD
Some minor replacement parts; metal smoothly rusted or lightly pitted in places, cleaned or reblued; principal lettering, numerals, and design on metal legible; wood refinished, scratched, bruised, or minor cracks repaired; in good working order.

FAIR
Some major parts replaced; minor replacement parts may be required; metal rusted, may be lightly pitted all over, vigorously cleaned or reblued; rounded edges on metal and wood; principal lettering, numerals, and design on metal partly obliterated; wood scratched, bruised, cracked, or repaired where broken; in fair working order or can be easily repaired and placed in working order.

POOR
Major and minor parts replaced; major replacement parts required and extensive restoration needed; metal deeply pitted; principal lettering, numerals, and design obliterated; wood badly scratched, bruised, cracked, or broken; mechanically inoperative; generally undesirable as a collector's firearm.

thanks guys, i'd probably rate this in very good to fine, based on that NRA rating.

i am going to get pictures still, so you guys can weigh in too on what condition it is in.

so i was wrong about the cracks. I found two as I was giving it a rub down and close inspection. here are the pictures i took tonight.

crack in stock. difficult to see. two cracks converging in sort of a triangle. it doesn't look bad to me

another crack in the fore grip. this one is worse than the one on the stock, but is about 1.5 to 2 inches long and stops.

Its kinda hard to call that one from pics Bomber. It could be anywhere from poor to good, So I would hit the middle of the road and call it fair. In fair condition I would say its worth somewhere in the 275 - 300 dollar range. But that's to the right collector. To the average guy it would be a sub 200 dollar gun.
Is it something you bought, trying to sell for a friend, or is it something you are looking to buy?

Heres a couple that sold at the auction houses. Maybe they will help you.

thanks 911jb.

i'm trying to sell it. it was a family gun, passed down from my grandfather. despite the family connection, the gun holds no sentimental value for me. i would rather sell it and put the money towards something i can actually use.

a few people have told me that i should take it to the gun show to try to find a collector who wants it. i may end up doing that, but actually getting to the gun show is the hard part because my schedule is pretty full through the summer.

i have a couple of people showing interest, so i just need to settle on a starting price and go from there
