My Lee manual doesn't have Blue Dot listed until you hit the heavier bullets.

Hornady 4th edition says for .357 Mag 125 grain XTP (Somewhat similar):

Blue Dot loads:

1450fps = 13.7 grains, 1500fps= 14.0 grains, 1550fps= 14.3 grains 1600fps (MAX)= 14.6 grains

.38 special 158gr lead with Blue Dot:

Starting: 5.8 grains = 919fps, Max 6.1 grains = 955 fps. Min OAL = 1.420"

___________________________________________________________________________
.38 special +P 158gr lead with Blue Dot:

Starting: 6.0 grains = 959fps, max = 6.3 grains = 995fps

I hear unique is great for wheel gun loads. You already have that right?

My Lee book lists for a 125 grain jacketed bullet with unique starting at 8.7grains with a never exceed of 9.6grains. Minimum OAL of 1.570.

It doesn't have much info for 157grain lead.

Agree with Dustin, maybe just use Unique. I would.

You dont even need a loading manual. All of the most current load info is available on the manufacterers websites, free of charge.

Accurate Arms #7 is a great magnum powder

http://www.accuratepowder.com/wp-conten ... ta_3.5.pdf

For 125gr HDY XTP 10.9 starting to 12.1 do not exceed. 1.575 OAL, going 1278-1453 FPS

Start on the lower end of the data with any of these since the bullet is only similar.

I guess I'm using unique, I just got 4 more pounds of it.

I'll be getting some .38 loads done too.

Oh yeah, I also have large pistol primers. is that right for .357/.38? I hope so because I got 1000 of them.

i got 800 pieces of .38 brass today.

so i have about 800 or so of .38 brass, and about 125 pieces of .357 brass. I'll be ordering 1k of these this weekend http://www.shop.rmrbullets.com/product.sc?productId=109&categoryId=13 and 1000 of these http://www.shop.rmrbullets.com/category.sc?categoryId=12

what is the difference between plated and non plated?

With plated they use a process to chemically or electrically deposit a layer of copper on the lead. With FMJ etc, they apply a piece of metal to the lead (or other) core.

If you order by the 9th, use coupon code "summer" for 10% off all bullets from RMR.

.38= small pistol primer
.357= small magnum or small rifle. (you can use them in .38 too, just a lil hotter)

You use large for .45's. It's better to keep them for now, you never know what you will end up doing later.

Just as an aside, I just use regular small pistol primers for my .357 loads.

Ok, load of choice for sd .357 mag in the ruger is 158 gr XTP over 11.4 gr aa7. But that is only for the ruger.

For the 605 I load 158 gr XTP over 7.5 gr Unique. If you use that one, that should give ya a nice Magnum load at about 1200 fps out of a 4 inch barrel. Max is 7.8 and start at is 7.2

for 125 gr jacketed over Unique go:

5gr= start at for .38 to 5.3
5.2 to 5.6 for +p
and
8.7 to 9.6 for Magnum

First number is start at, last number is do not exceed.

Post Re: give me a .357 load
I haven't scored the .357 bullets I need yet, just the lead wadcutters. So I used those to load 150 rounds of .38 last night. I found a recipe for 158 gr LSWC that used 4.3 gr of Unique. I did 50 at 4.3 and then got crazy and did 100 at 4.8

I figure going .5 grains up on the Unique wasn't going to break anything.

i made two mistakes. first was that I didn't have my die set right when trying to bell the cases, so I fucked up about 7 or 8 cases, way too belled.

second mistake was i finished loading a round and happened to notice when I was putting it away that it was missing a primer. I don't know how that happened. so after shaking all the powder out of the primer pocket, now I have a dummy .38 round.

As long as you're shooting out of a .357 you should be fine with that.
