 good trade? bad trade?
so i have two 420 cans of federal lake city 5.56, it's the green tip. it cost me about $175 per can factoring in shipping. i'm thinking of selling one of the cans (I didn't mean to order 2 originally). someone gave me a box of reloaded .223, 500 rounds. he bought it at the gun show. he also got a box of 500 .40S&W from the same person. he wants me to get rid of both now because when he started shooting the .40 he got about 5 misfires (bad primers?). my plan was to sell both boxes at the gun show again (this weekend). so here's the trade. i'm thinking of trading him one can of the Federal for his box of .223, either even trade or asking him to kick in a little cash. what do you guys think? i reserve the right to disregard anything you say.

5 misfires out of how many?
5 out of 100, eh, maybe. 5 out of 7, no way in hell.

 Re: good trade? bad trade?
out of fifty. could have been a bad batch of primers. didn't winchester just have a bad batch? if it was 5 squibs, no way would I consider it. but 5 bad primers doesn't necessarily mean the other caliber would have the same problems. doesn't necessarily mean they were loaded poorly. could just be a bad batch. right? wrong?

fuuuuuuck that. you don't need that liability, especially if you are re-selling them

 Re: good trade? bad trade?
You got a bullet puller? Maybe you can salvage the bullet and powder.

 Re: good trade? bad trade?
no but it's on the list. can bullets be salvaged? and if i salvaged the powder, how can I know what kind of powder it is? and i'm guessing i'd probably have to find a way to deprime all that brass if i wanted to sell the brass? nobody is going to want primed cases? especially not suspect ones.

 Re: good trade? bad trade?
I'm pretty sure the bullet can be salvaged. I know they sell pulled military bullets. I don't know about the powder. As for the primers my best guess is to use a .40 cal gun, one at a time. I know you don't want to try to de-prime a live primer because it's dangerous as s***, like the primer can fly at a higher velocity than a .22lr and penetrate your body, according to Lee's Modern Reloading.

 Re: good trade? bad trade?
i don't need to get a lot for them. i just need to make it worth my while. I was thinking i'd list them for $100. they should be worth that in components alone (assuming it is actually possible to salvage seated bullets). it might be costly to ship them anywhere though.

 Re: good trade? bad trade?
make that $75. $100 is too much.

 Re: good trade? bad trade?
Tis troof. it would be okay for range ammo im sure. I would bring them to the gun show and let folks know what they are getting first. or get a puller and get those primers out of them and sell the components separately.

 Re: good trade? bad trade?
shoot empty brass lol get a depriming die and shove em out. RCBS makes one that does a good job and if one goes off, it won't be detrimental to your health. Bentley? you got one of these on your cadillac rotisserie machine? Im sure the lee depriming die would be fine too, just take the tube off of it and let them drop into a can

 Re: good trade? bad trade?
Just make sure your nuts are covered in case that primer flies out. The Lee book gives a story of a guy de-priming a live primer over his lap and it shot into his leg all the way down to the bone.

 Re: good trade? bad trade?
You have smoked yourself retarded. Never buy reloads unless they are from someone you trust. It would take forever to break them down. Take them shits to the gun show and be gone with them. Dont sell them too cheap, ($125?) people might ask questions. Hey, if they are dumb enough to buy reloads....

 Re: good trade? bad trade?
where were you 6 hours ago? i'm gonna gamble with the .223, but i think selling the .40 is probably the easiest thing to do. it was complicated math that led me to this decision, and i'm not totally convinced i am coming out ahead. live and learn, or i guess, live and blow up your gun.

 Re: good trade? bad trade?
Sorry man... Just put your best used care salesman suit on and go make some money. You will come out all right. I just ordered the dillon 1200b case trimmer so my .223 case prep is bout to go into overdrive! Buy the components and head north for a day trip and we could knock out some quality .223 reloads for like $190 per k.
